On the morning of October 9, 2025, a body was found on the campus of Independence High School before classes started, which led to our school going into a secure lockdown. It was later confirmed that the person was not a student or staff member, and said there’s no ongoing threat to anyone at the school.
The area where the body was discovered was blocked off while San Jose police investigated. They haven’t released the man’s name yet, and the cause of death is still being determined by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
Police and district officials decided to keep classes going because there was no danger to students or staff. The investigation area was quickly secured, and it was confirmed that the situation did not involve anyone connected to the school. Administrators communicated with teachers and families to reassure them that the campus was safe, allowing the school day to continue as planned.
The only change that occurred for that school day was an early dismissal of 2 pm instead of 3 pm, and that students were directed away from the site of the investigation after school was dismissed. This affected students who would normally walk to the library or take the bus after school. Police are still asking anyone with information to reach out to the San Jose Police Department or send an anonymous tip to Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers.
