Drake Vs Kendrick
Written by: Elijah Vazquez 11th
We are too old to witness the creation of America, we are too young to witness the growth of the world, but, we are just the right age to witness the historic Drake vs Kendrick Lamar beef! This all started when Drake and J.Cole dropped a song called First Person Shooter on Drake’s album “For All the Dogs”. The only part that really matters from it is that J Cole said that himself, Drake and Kendrick Lamar were the big three of the rap scene. Skip a few months and Kendrick drops a song on Metro Boomin and Future’s album called “We Don’t Trust You”. The part that matters is when Kendrick was on a song called “Like That” where he pretty much said that he’s better than both of them. J Cole then responded by making a song called “7 Minute Drill” that was in all honesty, pretty mid. He pretty much tried to get back at Kendrick but backed out of the whole beef a while later (which in hindsight was probably for the best). Drake then released his song called “Push Ups” which was a very good diss track against Kendrick Lamar. He was telling Kendrick that he is short and that he was the one who made him famous with lines like, “Your first number one, I had to put it in your hand” and “How the **** you big-stepping with size-seven men’s on.” After this diss, Kendrick Lamar dropped a song called “euphoria” which went into Drake, saying he pretty much hated everything about him. He called him a fake black person who felt like he needed to make himself fit in. This is when Kendrick made another song called 6:16 in LA, where he went more in depth on how much he despises Drake. The whole song was based around Kendrick saying that he had a mole in Drake’s label “OVO” feeding him information. Drake in response, released a song called “Family Matters”, where he made big claims on how Kendrick abused his wife and left his kids. This caused Kendrick to respond with a song called “meet the grahams” where he made huge accusations at Drake, stating that he did very wrong things and was hiding a second child the whole time, being older than his son Adonis. He then followed up with “Not Like Us” which was a song where Kendrick basically danced on Drake’s grave, making things worse for Drake. Drake then released a song called “The Heart pt.6” where he said Kendrick was hurt as a child and that all the information he was receiving was all set up by Drake as a facade, which to the majority of people, felt like it was very disingenuous, due to how Drake was acting throughout the drama. At this point in time, many are on Kendrick’s side of the drama with no doubt there being more songs to come.

The Stress Before Summer
Written by: Cesar Vilchis 11th
With the end of the school year slowly creeping up on us, we are all most likely excited to be out for summer break! But without this excitement there is also stress about our class finals, and our upcoming AP exams.
Unfortunately the stress this month brings with all the testing is not the greatest and could bring fear to us due to our possible high expectations that we have on ourselves. Even though this fear is very rational, it is not beneficial whatsoever. Instead of stressing out we should do things that we know will calm us down. While doing things that will help us calm down is good, it is not the only thing we should be doing.
With the time we have before our exams we should try to make the most of it. By making the most of it I mean to study and prep. It is most beneficial that we try our best to study the subjects for the classes and not go into our exams without preparation. For example, try making flashcards for vocab terms or useful information that you might be unfamiliar with, review lessons that have already been taught to familiarize yourself with the subject. Doing these and more ways to study will help you build on your knowledge and will prepare you for the AP and final exams.
For our final exams it is very easy to try or to not try on it, mainly due to the grading system of finals only being 10% of our grade making its impact on our overall grade lackluster than the tests we had throughout our semester. Our AP exams are extremely scary. While they do not affect our grades, they do determine if we will have to retake the same class we took yet more difficult, and save money in college/university.
The Fight for President
Written by: Cecilia Delgadillo 11th
As we approach the end of the 2023 - 2024 school year, we approach the beginning of the 2024 - 2025 school year. A new school year does not only mean new classes, routines and new beginnings but also a new president. Although the title is very shiny, the job that comes with it is not so glamorous. School presidents work together with staff and students in order to create fun school events, take charge of ASG, and also identify problems the student body may have and fix them. Per usual, candidates for Kipp San Jose Collegiate’s school president are campaigning during the end of the school year in order to solidify their spot as president next school year. This year’s candidates for school president for the 2024 - 2025 school year are Britney Duong and Jasleen Batth.
Students have been participating in campaigns alongside the two candidates but are also hoping that the two candidates bring something that is not just snacks and stickers with them: change. When asking students around campus what change they want to see, students voiced the want for more fun school events and a sense of school spirit. They also voiced their want for more involvement when it comes spirit weeks, school dances and even pep rallies. Our school’s dances have been commonly known as lame and boring but that does not mean that students have lost hope when it comes to them. Many students want to go to the dances and hope each time that they will be better but are soon met with disappointment when they see it is the same as always. A solution that many students see is a connection between students and student government. They want more student involvement and opinions to be considered when it comes to school events.
These problems are not being overlooked by this year’s candidates. In fact, they are advocating for change in how student events are being seen and done. In Jasleen Batth’s list of promises and changes she wants to bring to the school, she shows her solution. Her solution is to have input and feedback from the student body and use it to create fun school events like dances, pep rallies and fairs. Britney Duong is also advocating for the need for more school events. Britney, a longstanding member of ASG, has shown her efforts in connecting students with ASG in the past and wants to continue that in her presidency.
This year's election may be a close call. Both candidates are winning over the student body with special snacks, toys and even buttons and stickers. When considering who to choose for president you should not only consider who has given you more memorabilia but who is going to bring the most beneficial change to this school. Although most of us cannot use our right to vote in actual presidential elections, school presidential elections are also super important when it comes to voicing your opinion and how you want to see change in your school.
Cinco de Mayo; Puebla’s victory against the French
Written by: Ixchel Ibanez 10th
Cinco de Mayo is an important part of Mexican history. However it is commonly confused as Mexican independence day. Mexico gained independence in 1821 from Spain. It started with the “Grito de dolores,” said by the priest, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish on September 16, 1810 in Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico. The priest called to their people urging them to revolt against the Spanish Government. The war for independence lasted for a decade. Mexico’s independence is officially celebrated on September 16 but the festivities will start the day before. On September 15 around 11 PM, the President of Mexico will ring the same bell that Hidalgo rang in 1810.
Cinco de Mayo celebrates a different event, the Battle of Puebla. First, Mexico was in a weak state and in debt due to the War of Reform and the war against the United States. Former President, Benito Pablo Juárez, concluded that Mexico was too poor to pay back France, England and Spain. The European countries created a joint army headed to Mexico to receive their payments. However, through negotiating Spain and England chose to leave. While the French wanted to stay and invade Mexico. The French landed in Veracruz and were headed to the capital. Despite being outnumbered, the people of Mexico united and were able to defeat the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.
Project 2025 Expected Impact On The LGBTQIA+ Community
Written by: Eliana RamirezGuzman 10th
Have you heard of Project 2025? Perhaps you have but merely chose to brush it aside, not wanting to take a dive into the deep end of the political pool, or perhaps you haven’t heard of it yet. Project 2025 is a nine hundred and two page document (yes you read that right) entitling what a second presidential term with Trump were to look like if he were to be re-elected into office. Nobody wants to read nine-hundred and two page of what we all know is going to be utter nonsense coming from the non-existent mind of a man who looks like a cheeto somebody dropped on the floor of a barbershop but unfortunately for my weekend, I read through all nine-hundred and two of those pages and am here to tell you what exactly Project 2025 has in store for a fair few members of our school community.
“Or deny the biological reality that there are only two sexes,” one of the very first sentences in this document that basically means that if this project were to be implemented, it would roll back the rights of millions of LBTQIA+ people. It would force people to either identify as male or female, remove abortion rights (as if they haven’t already been starting to do that), and get rid of any medical care systems that have been put in place specifically for transgender folks. Those who are LGBTQIA+ would be oppressed once again, being forced to stay in the closet for fear of being hunted down for being who they are. We already had a pretty bad year with Trump as our president from 2016 to 2021 but it might just turn out a whole lot worse if he truly wishes to put this Project into place after he gets re-elected.
How To Get Out of a Relationship!
Written by: Geremy Barahona 09th
Deciding to break up with someone you love is one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make. Leaving a relationship after a few months or years can be painful and emotionally draining. If you think it’s time to move on, do it in a respectful, healthy way.
Here are some tips to help you break up a relationship.
1. Ask yourself questions
Before making any decisions, it’s important to ask yourself if you’re really happy in your relationship and if it’s worth it. If you feel like you’ve put everything into your relationship and it’s not working, then it’s probably time to move on.
2. Be clear and concise: When you're ready to end things, be honest and clear about your reasons. Don't beat around the bush or give false hope. Keep your message concise and straightforward.
3. Be respectful: No matter what the circumstances are, it's important to show respect to your partner. Don't insult or belittle them during the breakup conversation. Remember that they have feelings too.
4. Take responsibility: It's important to take responsibility for your role in the relationship. Acknowledge your mistakes and apologize if necessary. This will help you both move on from the breakup.
5. Cut off contact: After the breakup, it's best to cut off contact for a while. This will give both of you time to heal and move on. Avoid checking their social media or reaching out to them for a while.
6. Give yourself time: Moving on from a relationship takes time. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself to grieve. Surround yourself with friends and family who will support you during this difficult time.
Breaking up with someone you care about is never easy, but sometimes it's necessary for your own well-being. Remember that you deserve to be happy and in a healthy relationship. With time, you'll find the strength to move on and find love again.

I can feel the peering glances from a world that watches in black and white
Still, I hold your hand, unwilling and defiant,
When I kiss you in hues their screens cannot colorize
How can I embrace you outside of these mindless walls?
Walls that have been breaking and burning since they were built, and yet refuse to let us pass or even slip through without the correct passcode
I hear stories of our recorded tragedies, under the name of progression without action...
Without promise
If you find the courage, hold my hand, and let me guide you across the silken web high up in the sky
Rope strung by an audience of unblinking eyes that follow and stare, waiting for the DROP!
But even with the attention of fleeting bystanders, I'll whisper to you, through our unknown reputations,
“Secrets aren’t meant for lovers”
My dear, do not look back, nor fall victim to the mobs that rage behind glass curtains
I’m here to help you wave your pride along the double spaced lines they had set for us,
To show them a place, unimaginable, in the streets outside of the dim lit closet that had consumed our being
Will you love me honestly?
Without keeping me incognito on the tabs of your laptop,
And make our history public for all of those who wish to watch in color
One day they will learn to accept us before the roaring cloud as your love in every combination of red, green, blue finds itself in the storage of my soul
