Halloween is a holiday where you can dress however you want and go trick-or-treating to get candy and other goods, but the main question is how it started and how it turned into the Halloween we know today. Halloween's origin can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain over 2,000 years ago. The Celtic festival of Samhain was to celebrate the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter, for the changes in the seasons. It was a time that people believed back then to be a crossover point, meaning when the veil between the living and the dead was at its thinnest. The festival would be a place where people would dress as spirits and seek food. The reason we say trick-or-treat to get candies was not always like that. It was first recorded in 1917 and was used as a playful treat of mischief if no treats were given to that person, but it was later, when trick-or-treating was shown in a Peanut comic strip in 1951, did it started to show in America. Now, the reason we dress up is to enjoy the holiday spirit, to have our big imaginations, and to add a sense of playfulness to the celebration, for the kids roam around the neighborhoods in search of candy.
