Everyone has had that music moment. You’re completing a task, sitting in the car, or lying in your room just listening to your favorite song, having the time of your life. Stress is eased, moods are lifted, and, surprisingly, work out performance is improved when you hear music.
According to a 2021 review article written by Christopher Ballmann, listening to your favorite song can improve your workout performance in various forms of exercises, which includes endurance (cardio) and weight training.
For an endurance workout, a runner or cyclist listening to their favorite music is shown to feel less discomfort during their workout compared to those not. In addition, these runners and cyclists were able to go further distances before giving out.
For weight training (gymming), lifters who listen to their preferred music are shown to increase their total repetitions and power output. Furthermore, gym goers who listen to their favorite song are shown to increase their motivation to workout compared to those who do not.
Whether you're training for endurance or strength, listening to your favorite songs improves the quality of your workouts.
