If you’ve been keeping up with the usual advisory announcements, you’ve probably heard that it is illegal, according by the state, for us to sell things at school. That’s true, but recently you’ve also probably been noticing people walking around---and if not, you will soon---holding boxes of chocolate to sell. Why is that?
The individuals in question are KSJC Seniors who are desperate to fundraise for their Senior Nite trip nearing the end of year, a one-day vacation to the happiest place on Earth: Disneyland. Who wouldn’t want to go with the people they’ve known for the past 4 years and make the final set of memories together? But good things come at a cost, and they have to pay the price of $420 in order to go on this trip. Ridiculously expensive, I know, and since not everyone can afford to pay this large sum out of pocket, the school has set up a system of fundraising: Chocolates!
For the low price of $1 each, you can buy a chocolate bar, flavors ranging from classics like Milk Chocolate to Wafer, many of which are gluten-free for any of you allergy-prone individuals out there. With this purchase, not only are you helping the people who are fundraising, but you are doing yourself a favor by tasting this premium grade, naturally sourced, one-of-a-kind chocolate. And let’s be fair, you, yes you reading this, probably like chocolate to some extent already. I mean, over 85% of Americans do, so you’re probably within that majority. Now that you have the opportunity to buy such a delicacy, and descend a kind hand down on poor unfortunate souls, what reason do you have to not purchase?
For those of you who couldn’t care less about chocolate or helping Seniors that you probably don’t even talk to, the organization that the school gets the chocolate from has a mission to help fund non-profit companies, schools, and communities that are not as well off in life. So if you really don’t want to do it for yourself, do it for a person in need, spare some moral dignity and do it for the less fortunate communities around the world.
You’ll have many opportunities to buy them throughout the year, so don’t be discouraged if you can’t find anyone selling them. Whether you wish to stay loyal to one person or give everyone else an equal chance to raise money with your purchases, know that you are doing a favor for the greater good. So stop waiting and wasting your time with whatever you are currently concerned with, whether it be that math assignment that’s due by the end of the week or the science test you have to study for. Education is temporary, chocolate is forever (just kidding, focus on your studies everyone). Go now, or even tomorrow. Buy a Chocolate (or two if you’re a good person who wants to gift a friend) from a Senior.
