Voting gives you power to shape your future and be an active part of your community. Take the first step on your voting journey today!
If you are under 18:
States in the United States allow people as early as 16 to pre-register. Typically, when others pre-register, they fill out an application and there the state adds them to the “pending” list or the “pre-registrations” status. Upon turning 18, people whom pre register will be added to the voter registration list and will now be able to cast their ballots.
Pre-registration, however, does not change the voting age, 18. Instead it allows Californians and other states to accept a waitlist from 16-17 years old.
Many states have an online pre-registration system. In California, you can go to *https://RegisterToVote.ca.gov* and click on the “pre-register” to vote button, and fill out the form.
Not only does California have an online pre-registration system, people also go to schools and hold a pre-registration voting drive for students that are 16-17 years old.
Our KSJC HS Dems Club recently held a pre-registration drive last Monday, October 21st for students who were eligible to register.
If you are 18+:
United States has a few policies voters have to meet before they can vote, these are:
At least 18 years old by Election Day
A US Citizen
A Californian Resident
Not currently convicted
Not currently mentally incompetent to vote by court decisions
Voters must meet these policies before they can vote for the next election!
Once you are eligible, you can usually cast your vote in the following places: local libraries, schools, community centers, town halls, and churches. If you want precise locations, check out Ca.gov and enter your address.
Voting is an integral cog for our society and government. It is the easiest way we as a collective can affect the future of our nation. This election cycle is extremely important for our nation's history. So, on behalf of the entire Wolfprints team, we urge you to vote!
