The New Year has just begun and while many are celebrating the holiday seasons peacefully in their homes, others, such as the individuals living in Los Angeles, California are not seeing this sense of relaxation. Instead, they’re currently being threatened by an ever growing fire.
Three fires began on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 in the Pacific Palisades Neighborhood of Los Angeles. The first began in the morning and throughout the rest of the day, the other two also began ravaging throughout the surrounding area, consuming homes, trees, and left behind cars in their way. Many residents were told to evacuate due to the spreading of these fires which now cover over 15000 acres of land and will continue to grow as firefighters have little to no containment of it.
Although the cause has not been determined yet, many believe that it started as a brush fire in someone’s yard, allowing it to spread quickly to surrounded bushes and foliage. With the addition of the lack of humidity in the air and very strong winds, homes were set aflame as people quickly collected their valuables before evacuating to places of safety like the beaches.
The total number of people who have died or have been injured has yet to be announced to the public as officials are currently overwhelmed by the intensity of the fire. It should be noted that wildfires such as these are more common later in the year during the summer when it is warmer, thus there is speculation as to whether this fire was natural or caused by someone.
